Perfect 'AS' Posh

A few months ago I was at an elementary school teaching Pick a Better Snack lessons when a teacher/friend of mine shared a few products she had recently started selling.  I had an hour break between my classes, so we relaxed in her office while she told me about her new business venture as a Perfectly Posh independent consultant.  At the time I had never heard of it before, but I listened because the products smelled yummy, and I liked that they contained natural-based products and essential oils. My friend (Katie) even recommended a body creme that would be good for my son's eczema.  With having tried so many products already and having little success, I was hopeful these Posh products would do the trick. Before I left Katie wrote me a list of possible items I should check out and I was on my way.

I checked out the Posh website and added a few 'maybes' in my online cart.  On pay day Friday I spent over an hour debating what items to actually purchase.  There were a few items I was for sure on, and others I kept going back and forth.  Katie's words kept playing in my mind - as a new mom, I needed to pamper myself.  Now, I'm a pretty low-key girl:  I don't wear much make-up and I don't like to spend a lot of extra money on pointless (to me, anyways) beauty items...but there was just something about the Posh business that really just clicked with me.  Plus I realized at 25 years old, I didn't have any sort of morning/night regimen to clean/wash my face, my skin was dry and cracking on my hands/feet...I need to take better care of my skin as well as Eli's.  So I took the plunge and bought the PJ's All Day body crème, BFF exfoliating wash, Night & Day moisturizer, a sugar lip scrub, lip balm set and a Lavender essential oil skin stick.  And honestly, these items are all still some of my favorites to date.

You can tell Eli loves his PJ's ;)

This stuff got me hooked on Posh instantly.  It's a fairly large container and lasted me and Eli about 3 months.  At night I lather his lil' bod up, especially the backs of his calves where his eczema is the most dry.  In only a few days I noticed his skin looked less irritated, less dry, and he smelled great!   I've also tried putting on his scalp for his cradle cap, and wouldn't you know- that, too, is completely gone! The lavender is also calming so he can settle down for bedtime.  I also lather up before bedtime all over, as well as  adding the lavender skin stick on my wrists, behind the ears, temples...anywhere I feel I need more relaxation.  The double whammy of lavender helps this sleep-deprived mama feel otherwise ;)

***UPDATE: after July 31st Posh is actually retiring the current Skindelicious body creme scents, INCLUDING PJ's All Day! So sad! :-( buuuuuttttt.... good news is you can still stock up on all the current products before the new catalog comes out August 1st! You already know I'll be ordering 2 or 3 of these bad boys, along with a few other items, which will last months; Which is more than enough time for us to find  another great product for our sensitive skin.

After a few months of purchasing Posh products and loving them, I took the plunge last week and became an independent consultant myself. Never in a million years did I think I'd become a consultant for ANYTHING, yet here I am starting to sell Perfectly Posh.  Maybe I'll just reap the benefits for myself; maybe my mom or close family friends will buy something once or twice.  Maybe I'll surprise myself and totally rock at the consultant thing...who knows! But I do know these products have been a lifesaver for both me and Eli's sensitive skin (still working on Dee to convert)! ;)  maybe they will do wonders for you, too!  Again you can visit my site by typing: perfectAS.po.sh in your web browser,

When "Food As Medicine" Isn't Always Helpful

I recently listened to a podcast (I'll share the link below) that really inspired me to write my own post on the topic. Throughout my dietetics career, I myself have spouted the term "Food is your medicine" to clients in a number of different settings.  Let's be honest - it's simple, catchy, almost tongue in cheek; hence why it's used in sooooo many taglines by professionals giving nutrition education.  I think most people who use it aren't intending harm, but rather trying to meet clients or audiences where they are at.  In our dietetics curriculum, we are taught that there are many health benefits to consuming a variety of nutrients, so at the surface level, treating what you eat as "medicine" might feel useful at first. So where could this otherwise harmless statement actually become harmful ?  In my experience working with disordered eating patients, "Food as medicine" can become a way for the ED to twist and factualize the client...

What Health at Every Size REALLY Means

The Health at Every Size movement (also known by it's acronym, HAES) has a mission to provide compassionate health care to ALL.  Straight from it's web resource www.haescommunity.com : " Health at Every Size® principles help us advance social justice, create an inclusive and respectful community, and support people of all sizes in finding compassionate ways to take care of themselves. But first, let's start from the beginning.  In 2010, before this was considered a "movement," Dr. Linda Bacon wrote & published the book Health at Every Size , which was based on her groundbreaking research to de-stigmatize our society's view on weight and health.  If you try to order a copy of this book online, its description on Amazon says it all: "Fat isn't the problem.  Dieting is."  Contrary to popular belief, HAES is NOT about foregoing all health and nutrition information - in fact it isn't even anti-weight loss!  Let's dive ...

Patience is a Virtue

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.  I'm also convinced that God places events and people in our lives at exactly the right moments when we need them - making the "when it happened" just as significant as the "what happened." Although the above statements are straight from me, over the past few months my belief in them has been tested.  There have been times I've questioned my true calling, my passions, my "roles" I'm supposed to be in this world...you get the picture.  Things I'd been looking forward to weren't happening as I had hoped, and I was becoming overly anxious and stressed. During this time of questioning I completed a 9-week course through my church called 'CORE' and was surprised by the outcome.  I learned so much about myself, my faith...It even dawned on me that I may not hold the control switch to my life as much as I would like to think I do.  Newsflash to Abbie:  God has his own pl...
